Budget Justification

The following text of the sample budget justification below demonstrates the type of details necessary to obtain budget approval if your project is funded. The numbers used in the sample do not represent actual numbers.

Your Budget Justification must align with your proposed budget. State each expense outlined in your budget and provide a clear justification for each line item.

TPS GRANT FUNDS

These cost-reimbursable payments will be made to the organization that facilitates the awarded funds.

Hired Instructors

A highly qualified trainer will be hired to conduct a two-day workshop in December 2016 ($200.00/day for 2 days = $400.00).

Workshop Materials

Workshop notebooks that include sample lesson plans and useful resources will be prepared, copied, and distributed to each workshop participant (35 @ $50.00 = $1,750.00).

Participant Stipends

Include teacher stipends or honorariums paid to your participants.

Participant Travel

Up to 35 teachers will travel a maximum of 65 miles round trip per day to attend a two-day workshop (35 X 2 days @ 65 miles X .54 per mile = $2,457.00).

Participant Conference Attendance Fees

William Smith Historical Institution (WSHI) and TPS will split the costs of the conference fees for each participant who presents at a conference after attending the original 2-day workshop (35 * $80.00 = $2,800; $1,400.00/each).

Substitute Teacher Expenses

Substitute teachers will be hired to cover the 2-day workshop in December 2016 ($80/day for 2-days for 35 teachers = $5,600).

Other

Additional expenses should be included. You will need to insert additional line items into the budget plan and provide a brief description of each item.

IN-KIND CONTRIBUTIONS

These expenses are cost-sharing for the overall project expenses.

Workshop Facilities

The professional development workshop will take place in the William Smith Historical Institution. The WSHI typically charges $200.00 per day for professional development events ($200.00/day for 2 days = $400.00) and will waive this expense.

Participant Conference Attendance Fees
